Kesari Veer: The Dramatised Love Story served a Major Drawback
Kesari Veer Review
Rating- 1.5/5
Kesari Veer could have fared much better if its focal point had remained on the Somnath Temple rather than the dramatized love story between the leads. Starring Sooraj Pancholi, Akanksha Sharma, Suniel Shetty, and Vivek Oberoi, the film was made with great effort but fell short in execution. The historical drama was made to pay tribute to Veer Hamirji Gohil who fought against the Tughlaq Empire to save Somnath Temple. Surprisingly, even powerful lines like ‘Har Har Mahadev!’, which naturally stir emotion in audiences, passed by like any other dialogue.
Akanksha Sharma was visually appealing and tried her best to match the aura of her character. Considering this was her debut, she performed quite well. Unfortunately, it was difficult to connect with Sooraj Pancholi’s portrayal of Veer Hamirji Gohil, despite having such a gravitas role. The performance falls flat like a newcomer. Suniel Shetty brought a good presence to the film with great screen time, probably even saving the film in parts. Vivek Oberoi, as the antagonist Zafar Khan, was another saviour. At Least his presence brought the film back to its original storyline focused on the Somnath Temple.
Without comparing this to films like Chhaava or Bahubali, Kesari Veer had its own identity and was made with sincere effort. However, it fell short in execution. Dramatic shots, melodrama, and unnecessary song placements detracted from what could have been a focused and impactful historical film.
