Katrina Kaif’s “Baar Baar Dekho” goes another flopped!

September was a month of disappointment with only Pink becoming a superhit. Katrina Kaif's Baar Baar Dekho was the biggest disaster. September was a month that was highly expected. It marked the end of the third quarter of a year which says a lot about what that particular year means to the industry. August was all about Rustom - MohenjoDaro clash and September was, well, a whole lot of disappointment with a pleasant surprise wrapped in its midst. Let us tell you how the month fared and the films that released. One trend that got broadly highlighted and left everyone pretty zapped is the rise and rise of films made on a mediocre budget. It all began with Akira, Sonakshi Sinha’s action turn. An AR Murugadoss film Akira‘s budget was much less than every film that released this month. Apparently made on a budget of 13-15 or, Sonakshi’s film made money. The film opened at Rs 5. 15 cr on its first day and wrapped up with Rs 28. 69 cr. These may not be profound numbers but a film with an actress in the lead has managed to break even which is a feat in itself. Another film which reaped the benefits of its lesser cost of production is Freaky Ali. No, this Sohail Khan venture is not a hit but the numbers it posted in its first day was enough to say why it managed to go past the hugely publicised Baar Baar Dekho it rivalled at the box office. According to reports, it was made at a budget of 15 cr and the trade wasn’t too hopeful about it. They predicted a Rs 1 cr first day and Rs 3 cr opening weekend. But the film earned Rs 2.55 cr on day one and Rs 8. 50 cr over the weekend. It’s lifetime collection wrapped up at Rs 14. 55 cr. Mind you the film only got 600-700 screens! Another film which did wonders in this category is Pink. Our trade expert had said that the film was made at a budget of Rs 25 cr and now it has already earned 56. 25 cr. The film is still running at the theatres. Clearly, this month proved that one needs to know how to budget their film for maximum gains. It’s too early to judge MS Dhoni’s prospects at the box office as it has just released and is this month’s last film. But from what we have till now, we are pretty amazed. Pink is the only film which has worked brilliantly at the box office. It has earned above 50 crores already and is only getting bigger with every day. No other film could make it happen. So the genre that won this month is CONTENT. Nothing can get bigger than that and this film proved it. Despite getting toplined by Amitabh Bachchan, the success of the film went to the topic it addressed which was applause worthy.
