Katrina Kaif cried, threw tantrums, refused to perform for not getting ‘Awards’: Report
Senior Journalist Shekhar Gupta has recently in his, no-nonsense opinion, talked openly on B’town politics and the reality of award shows. Recalling a few incidents where certain Bollywood celebs had lost their calm and threw tantrums for getting no awards or nominations. In his long mention, the veteran journalist had also shared an incident of Katrina Kaif, where the actress had thrown last minutes tantrums, just before going on stage for her performance.
Shekhar Gupta in his piece mentioned how at 2012 Screen Awards when he was the CEO of the organization, had to end up going to the ‘Bharat’ actress’ vanity van and implore her as Katrina was throwing last-minute tantrums. Writing extensively about their encounter, Shekhar shared how Katrina had a breakdown and was crying profusely, bleating about the award shows, how she is always called but is never given awards.
Interestingly, Katrina’s tantrum made them invent the ‘popular choice award’ category. “In 2012, when Katrina Kaif was to perform, paid fully in advance, she threw a tantrum minutes before her performance as she wasn’t being given any award. I was taken to her vanity van to plead with her,” wrote the senior Journalist.
Shekhar further added, “Katrina was all dressed and painted up to perform. And then, the outburst. Why do they always call me but give me no awards? I said that was never the deal, you have a contract to perform. But by now, tears were streaming down her face, taking much of the make-up in their wake. Again, we invented a popular choice award.”
Sharing other Bollywood stories, Gupta also mentioned getting ‘long, pained, hurtful’ and ‘boycott threats’ calls from filmmaker and the owner of Dharma Productions, Karan Johar as his 2010 film ‘My Name Is Khan’, starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, had not received nominations in any category.
