Another Bollywood Veteran Left Us, Lagaan Actor Shrivallabh Vyas Passed Away at 60

2107 was not a great year for Bollywood, some veteran and legendary actors including Vinod Khanna and Shashi Kapoor passed away last year. 2018 has started on a very sad note. We have already lost a veteran actor.

Shrivallabh Vyas, who is best known for playing wicket keeper Ishwar Chacha in Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan, has passed away at 60. He was reportedly suffering from prolonged illness. The actor has worked in more than 60 films in his long film career. Some of the most notable works of the actor are Sarfarosh, Shool, Abhay, Sankat City, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero, and Aan: Men at Work.

His friend and actor Daya Shankar Pandey said to Indian Express, “Vyas was a great actor and we will miss him immensely. He died on Sunday morning around 9:30 am and his last rites will take place in the evening. He has two daughters and his wife struggled a lot while taking care of Vyas… He was a very well-read man and an immensely talented actor, but he didn’t get his dues. But his work has always spoken for him. He was also into singing and had started writing too, but life was cruel to him,”

Vyas was an alumnus of National School of Drama in Delhi. The actor took a long break from acting in 2008 when he collapsed in his hotel room in Gujarat. The veteran actor is survived by his wife and two daughters.

According to the reports, his family was in financial crisis and struggling to pay for his treatment. Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, and Irrfan Khan were helping his family with the expenses.

His wife Shobha told to TOI, “Barring few, most ignored us. Even producers who worked with Vyas refused to bear his medical expenses… Aamir Khan has been supporting us. It’s because of him we can afford a three BHK flat, medical expenses, fees for my daughters and other expenses,”
