Jos Buttler Talks About How He Felt After Being Mankaded And What He Told Ashwin After The Incident
IPL 2019 will be known for the controversial mankading incident by Kings XI Punjab skipper R Ashwin. During Kings XI Punjab Vs Rajasthan Royals, Ashwin mankaded Jos Buttler, leaving fans furious. This incident didn’t go down well with the fans, cricket experts as well as several former cricketers. Ashwin received huge criticism from all over the place.
However, we should also not forget that Ashwin didn’t do anything wrong if we look at the cricketing rule. The bowler is entitled to run out a batsman standing at the non-strikers end if he leaves the crease even before the release of the ball. However, it is considered against the spirit of gentlemen’s game.
Both Ashwin and Buttler got into a heated argument post this controversial incident. But Buttler never talked about it until now. The 28-year-old English cricketer has finally opened up about this whole situation.
In an interview with a leading daily TOI, Buttler said, “I was disappointed. It doesn’t happen often in cricket, but when it does it actually is disappointing. Unfortunately I have got out in a similar fashion before as well, so I will make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
On being asked what exactly he told to Ashwin after this incident, as it seemed they got into a heated argument. RR cricketer told, “I just asked him if he really wishes to play the game that way. Whether he thought it was the right thing to do. And he obviously thought it was, in his opinion.”
Not only fans but several former international and Indian cricketers expressed their disappointment and slammed Ashwin like never before. Even Rahul Dravid said that getting a batsman out in this fashion is as per the rules but he would have liked to warn Buttler at least once.
