Irrfan Khan And Salman Khan Tie-up For 300 Crore Project On Sikh Hero Gurdit Singh
In this mega-budget project, Irrfan is essaying the role of Sikh Lawyer Gurdit Singh. This film is based on a true event of 1914, where about 376 South Asian ocean passengers denied an entry to Canada. In this Passengers list, there were 24 Muslims, 340 Sikhs, and 12 Hindus. Due to the fear of British Raj in India, Gurdit Singh boarded the Japanese Ship Komagata Maru with 376 passengers and traveled a long way to Canada.
From Salman Khan’s side, Amar Butala, Chief Operating Officer (COO) says, “It’s a powerful human story of struggle and triumph in which Irrfan will play a Sikh named Gurdit Singh. The story of those Sardars, Muslims, and Hindus is relevant even today as we hear and read about the refugee crisis and racial profiling constantly. We have begun work on the pre-production and will announce the director and the rest of the cast in the next few days.”
Currently, the film is in the pre-production process, where casting is still going on. Tentatively, the film is entitled as Lions of the Sea, which will go on floors in 2017.
