Bollywood loses its rare gem as Irrfan Khan passes away at 53
One of the finest actors of Bollywood, Irrfan Khan passed away at Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital on Wednesday. He was admitted to ICU when his health deteriorated due to Colon infection on Tuesday.
The 53-year-old actor is left with his wife Sutapa and two sons – Babil and Ayan.
His family issued an official statement, “i trust, i have surrendered”; These were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heart felt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of a rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, “As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it”.
Irrfan was battling neuroendocrine tumour since 2018 and he underwent a long treatment, including a surgery, in London.
Bollywood director Shoojit Sircar condoled the death of actor. He wrote on Twitter, “My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om shanti. Irfaan Khan salute.”

Irrfan Khan was known for his roles in films like Hindi Medium and Piku. He won a National Film Award for his film Paan Singh Tomar.
Not only in Bollywood, Irrfan was also an acclaimed international actor. He was lauded globally for his roles in films like Life of a Pie, Slumdog Millionaire and Inferno.
Irrfan’s last film was ‘Angrezi Medium’ which was released on an OTT platform on April 1. Film failed to hit theatres due to the current lockdown in the country. Irrfan’s performance was lauded by his fans but no one ever knew that this is the last time he is acting onscreen.
As soon as the news of his demise came out, Bollywood fraternity and Irrfan’s fans were left in shock. His friends from the industry, colleagues and co-stars took to Twitter to condole the departing soul.
