Rekha is one of those actresses in Bollywood who is known for her beauty and elegance. Her early life was not a bed of roses. She had seen many ups and downs, controversies, in her career span. In four decades she has done more than 180 films. She made her debut in 1970 with the movie ‘Sawan Bhadon’.
She comes from a middle-class family. She was born as Bhanurekha Ganesan and she is the daughter of South Indian actor Gemini Ganesan and Telugu actress Pushpavalli. Her father never married her mother, so she is called an illegitimate child. She has struggled a lot in her life and also worked in many B and C graded movies. She was criticised for her dusky colour but she didn’t lose hope. She made a big name in Bollywood with her acting.
Earlier she used to do 7-8 movies in a year but nowadays she is not seen in movies nor in any commercials. Then how does she earn her living?
Well, Rekha gets rent from the properties she has in Mumbai and South India. She is a member of Rajya Sabha and gets a good amount of salary. If she does a film in a year then she is paid a handsome amount of money. Also, she is paid for attending award shows and events.
As she is from a middle-class background she doesn’t spend much money on cars or holidays. She knows how to spend her income in a smart way. The designer sarees she wears are mostly gifted by her designer friends.
