Anushka Sharma Opens Up About Karan Johar’s Bullying & Not Attending Bollywood Parties!

There are many reasons to fawn over Anushka Sharma, and the biggest one, perhaps, is her honesty. From talking about the wage gap in Bollywood to how she handles her relationship with Virat Kohli, she has always been candid and forthcoming. For Vogue India’s March cover, she’s slaying in a T-shirt that reads, “We all should be feminists” in block letters, and honestly, we’ve never wanted to ape a celebrity style more. In her interview with the magazine, she spoke about not being an extravagant person, her Bollywood journey, and more. We have a few excerpts here:
Talking about not being an extravagant person, Anushka recalled a time when Karan Johar made fun of her, saying,
“One day Karan Johar was making fun of my (last-season) bag and I told him, I donāt give a fuck. It does its job and Iām going to use it. Iām not an extravagant person. But Iāll be honest; people send me free stuff, so Iām very fortunate.ā
On being asked why she is not seen at the larger than life Bollywood parties, she clarified,
āJustā¦ no. By now people have accepted that Iām anti-social and not standoffish. This is not just the case with industry friends, Iāve always been this way.ā
When she was asked about her experience as a producer, she said,
āWe had some writers here a few weeks ago, everyone was pitching stories, and in that moment I remember thinking, this is just the best thing. A script comes to an actor in the absolute last stage; as a producer, it comes to you first. Actors are very selfish, so I had to suddenly change the way I was looking at a film. After the success of (our first production) NH10, Iāve become more confident and more courageous with the films that we do. We just want to push unique concepts.ā
