#FilmymantraQA – Why do Salman Khan and Aamir Khan always get two or three week run without any clash? [@anshul15592]
Your question contains the answer – Both Salman and Aamir have earned this position in the industry!
Let’s talk about Salman first. He wasn’t quite a demi-God till about half a decade back. There was a time when he was delivering flops like God Tussi Great Ho, Marigold, Heroes, Yuvvraaj and Main aur Mrs. Khanna at an alarming pace. However, Wanted changed it all, and though there were setbacks like Namastey London and Veer as well, things changed post Dabangg. It was only after this film that Salman Khan started getting a solo release for himself. Post this, when he started delivering one blockbuster after another, he ‘earned his position’ in the industry to be considered reliable for a two week long sustained run.
Ditto for Aamir Khan. He was delivering successes like Rang De Basanti and Fanaa but still when he came with Taare Zameen Par, Welcome released alongside and it was a much bigger film. This wasn’t too long ago either; the year was 2007. However, when Taare Zameen Par worked despite the might of Welcome (which went on to collect more by the way) and a much commercial film Ghajini came, Aamir was taken even more seriously in the industry. When an actor turns out to be the founding father of the 100 crore [Ghajini], 200 crore [3 Idiots] and 300 crore [PK] club, he ‘earns his position’. This is what Aamir did.
When you have one superstar creating records, and another breaking them, it is a healthy sign for the industry. No one would like this cyclic chain of events to stop, and hence makers, distributors and exhibitors allow them a free run, and that too each time around.
