Dhanush reveals how a 20-minute narration by Sekhar Kammula sealed the deal for Kuberaa

Dhanush signed for Kubera

When a celebrated actor like Dhanush—known for his sharp instincts and discerning choices—says he agreed to a film within minutes, you know something extraordinary is at play. In the case of Kuberaa, it wasn’t just the narrative that drew him in, but the storyteller himself: director Sekhar Kammula.

Speaking at the song launch event in Mumbai, the actor shared, “I chose to do this film because of Sekhar sir. He narrated just 20 minutes to me, and that was enough. I was completely taken in by his energy, his positivity, and the sincerity he brings—not just as a filmmaker, but as a person.”

The actor went on to speak about the kind of impression Kammula left on him from their very first meeting. “Sekhar sir is a remarkable human being. You rarely come across someone so genuine, so pure-hearted, and kind. We work on many films and meet countless people, but every once in a while, you meet someone who makes the journey truly worth it. That’s what he did for me.”

“There are always a few moments during the making of a film that stay with you long after it’s wrapped. This project gave me some of those moments, and working with Sekhar sir will always remain one of the highlights of my journey,” he said, looking back on the experience.

Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under the banners of Sri Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations Pvt Ltd, it is co-produced by Vipul Agarwal and Manish Vasisth, with Mugafi as Presenter for the North of India, also leading the film’s distribution charge across the northern region.

Kuberaa is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sekhar Kammula and has music by Devi Sri Prasad (DSP). Starring Nagarjuna, Dhanush, and Rashmika, the film is presented in five languages—Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam—and is set to hit screens worldwide on 20th June 2025.
