Sikhs population in Canada is pretty big, this is why Punjab plays a considerable role in Justin’s India visit. You might remember that he had apologized for the Komagata Maru incident in the Canadian Parliament 2 years back.

To uninitiated, The Komagata Maru incident happened in 1914, when Canada refused to let 237 passengers get off the ship. The most of the passengers were Sikhs. Komagata Maru was the name of the ship, which traveled from Hong Kong to Vancouver. Due to this, the ship had to return to India which was under British rule that time.
