Box Office – Phantom has a decent Week One
After a good weekend at the Box Office which fetched around 33 crore, Phantom did have decent weekdays. The collections held on to an extent and as a result, the first week billing now stands around 47.5 crore. For Saif Ali Khan, these are much better numbers than his last few solo starrers (Happy Ending, Bullett Raja, Agent Vinod) and finally, he can move on to his next lot of films. Incidentally, his next Rangoon too has producer Sajid Nadiadwala as a producer and since it also brings him back with his Omkara director Vishal Bhardwaj, the film is already being much anticipated for next year.
Last year Haider had released around the same time and while it too had terror background, an extended eight day week had resulted in 41 crore. In comparison, Phantom has done better and in good probability, the lifetime of Shahid Kapoor starrer (60 crore) would be crossed soon. Also, the Kabir Khan directed affair has taken a marginal edge over Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam which too was a dramatic affair and had collected 46.25 crore in its first week. That said, the Nishikant Kamat continued to bring in moolah and it has to be seen how far does Phantom go on.
The film has sailed through since the cost of production has been declared around 40-42 crore. Producers Sajid Nadiadwala and Siddharth Roy Kapur now have their eyes set on their next outing together – Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Tamasha which releases on 27th November.
As for the other two releases of the week, Kaun Kitney Paani Mein and Banke Ki Crazy Baraat, there were no takers and are now out of theaters after one week itself with negligible collections to talk about.
