Box Office – Katti Batti to make profits for its producers UTV
After just about decent opening day of 5.28 crore, Katti Batti had to show some growth over the weekend to register healthy collections. Albeit it was released on 1200 screens, a better feat was expected on the days to follow. However, while the Imran Khan and Kangna Ranaut starrer stayed on the same lines on Saturday, the growth over Sunday was fine, though not fantastic, as a result of which the film currently stands at 16.27 crore* mark.
While there is no comparison here with Tanu Weds Manu Returns, a franchise affair and a much bigger family entertainer that had brought in 38 crore, the film is around the same lines for a similar genre, stage and setting film, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, which had collected 16.5 crore over the opening weekend.
The reviews for the Nikhil Advani film haven’t been flattering while the word of mouth hasn’t been fantastic either. All eyes are now on how the weekdays would turn out to be as the film basically has one week to make moolah before three notable films (Calendar Girls, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Bhaag Johnny) release on the coming Friday.
Yes, much better was expected from the film since it was promoted aggressively and had Kangna Ranaut as the biggest selling point. While theatrically the film’s eventual run would be known by the end of week, for its producers UTV it would still turn out to be a profitable venture overall since its satellite has already been sold for a good price and the cost of production is only 20 crore.
Meeruthiya Gangsters could neither find a good release nor good reviews. Hence, expectedly there was no buzz amongst the audience and the film disappeared without much of a noise.
