Goa CM Manohar Parrikar Passes Away After Battle With Pancreatic Cancer

The Goa chief Manohar Parrikar, a former defence minister who had been battling a pancreatic ailment for over a year, died on March 17. The BJP leader and former defence minister was first shifted to the US for treatment in March 2018.

He returned to the country a few months later and was admitted at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences in September.

The health of Parrikar, took a turn for the worse in the past two days after his medical condition fluctuated for over a year.

“The chief minister died around 6.40 pm on Sunday,” said a senior state government official.

He was put on life support system late Saturday night. A widower, Parrikar is survived by his two sons and their families, says the sources.

Several to leaders will be in Goa on Monday to attend Manohar Parrikar’s last rites.

Manohar Parrikar was known as an unparalleled leader.  He was a true patriot and exceptional administrator, he was admired by all. His flawless service to the nation will be remembered by generations. Deeply saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and supporters. Modi said in one of several tweets.

President of India, Ramnath Kovind tweeted a condolence message, confirming news of Parrilar’s demise.

Extremely sorry to hear of the passing of Shri Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa, after an illness borne with fortitude and dignity. An epitome of integrity and dedication in public life, his service to the people of Goa and of India will not be forgotten #PresidentKovind.
