Celebrate Amitabh Bachchan And Jaya 42nd wedding anniversary
In pictures: Bollywood love tales
Amitabh Bachchan married Jaya on this day 42 years ago in 1973, the same year Amitabh’s angry young man image took the nation by storm in ‘Zanjeer’. Their wedding was a hush-hush affair with only a few of close industry friends and family members in attendance.
“After 42 years it all seems so very close and immediate … The decision to be together… The information to the elders… Parents first and then .. Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, my first director and then Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Jaya’s first director, and ours for many films thereafter,” the “Piku” actor added. Amitabh Bachchan also recalled his traditional Bengali wedding and their honeymoon in London.
Bachchan and Jaya worked together in films like “Bansi Birju”, “Abhimaan”, “Chupke Chupke”, “Mili”, “Sholay” and “Silsila” and “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”.
“Self wishes are the order of the day… They serve both ways. They convey to you the Ef (extended family), of my marriage anniversary… And they inform the wife that she has not been forgotten even though she is not in the country at this moment,” he wrote on his blog.
Big B took to Twitter to thank fans and followers for wishes on his wedding anniversary. He shared the above picture and wrote, “T 1885 – To them that give me their wishes for the Anniversary, my sincere gratitude and love .. 42 years of marriage”
