Amitabh Bachchan Believes Hollywood Will Destroy Bollywood, This Is Why
Bollywood has come a long way over the years. However, the Hindi film industry is having a rough patch. 2017 was the worst year for Bollywood with several big films bombing at the box office. 2018 started on a good note, but it is not great.
The problems for Bollywood are increasing with every passing year. Many Hollywood and regional films are getting a huge response, whereas Bollywood films are unable to bring the audience into the theatres. Recently, Avengers: Infinity War has taken the biggest opening of 2018. The movie has earned more than Rs. 100 Crore in just 4 days. The movie might earn Rs. 300 Crore.
It would not be wrong to say that Hollywood films are being made by considering Indian audience, as they are doing phenomenal business in the country. Hollywood is looking to be a big threat for Bollywood, which is going through a crisis.
During the promotion of 102 Not Out, megastar Amitabh Bachchan also thinks that Hollywood may damage Bollywood film industry in a big way. He also requested people not to patronize Hollywood films.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Amitabh Bachchan said that we should keep re-inventing ourselves, as people are exposed to contents from all around the world, which are of greater quality than ours.
He further added,
“This I was told in 1993 when I was on a casual visit to New York and I met some studios who were wanting to meet me and they told me, ‘You better get your house in order because India is the new frontier and Americans are coming.’ And everywhere Hollywood has gone, it has destroyed the local industry whether it’s England, Italy or Germany, they just come and take over. They have the money and the expertise. They have the quality and quantity. We are fighting against them.”
Mr Bachchan further requested audience not to patronize their films. He said,
“So, whenever their films come out, please don’t patronize them because we are fighting against an ogre of Hollywood from overtaking us and destroying our industry. I spent some time with these young filmmakers and they think so big and massive. They don’t have any doubts about how to do things. They tell me, ‘We will do this and that,’ and I ask them, ‘But how will you manage?’. They assure me they know how to do it”
