Abhinandan Varthaman Inherited His Indomitable Spirit From His Mother Dr. Shobha Varthaman
IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman had been taken hostage on Wednesday, in an aerial combat with Pakistani F-16s. Before his jet was captured, he also successfully took down a Pakistani jet in a heroic move.
A video circulated on social media soon after his capture showed that he was beaten up by a group of people after being rescued by Pakistani security personnel. In another video, he was seen injured, blindfolded and handcuffed. A video that was released later showed him having tea.

Friday morning, his parents while boarding a flight from Chennai to New Delhi were given a standing ovation inside the plane for raising a daredevil. He inherited this indomitable spirit from his parents.
Varthaman’s father Air Marshal Simhakutty Varthaman, who also flew the MiG-21s retired five years ago. Mother Dr. Shobha Varthaman specialises in providing medical aid in worst conflict zones.
The details were given by Retired Group Captain Tarun K Singha to News18 who has known the family for decades. She has even worked as a doctor with the International humanitarian NGO.
