The mutual admiration society between Aanand L. Rai and Dhanush has been unparalleled. After Raanjhanaa, they had decided to make a love story together. In fact even the dates were more or less finalized as the film was supposed to go on floors this October. However, as things stand today, the film is being pushed to 2016. This isn’t all, as the Tanu Weds Manu Returns director could well be beginning another film before starting his next with Dhanush.
This is a surprise because in January this year, when Dhanush was promoting Shamitabh, he had gone on records and said, “Yes, we plan to begin shooting for this love story towards the end of the year. After Raanjhanaa, I wanted to wait for the right script. While some were just not the kind that I wanted to be associated with, some of them were too good for me. I wanted a perfect balance and even if it meant waiting, it was all worth it. I took time to pick and choose.”
However, for now, while Dhanush has moved on to his other South assignments, Aanand is taking a couple of months break before finalizing his next.
“It isn’t surprising though,” informs our source, “Aanand gets too attached to his films and needs a lot of time to come out of the characters he has developed. He needs to be emotionally disconnected from them. Tanu Weds Manu Returns has taken a lot out of Aanand. He needs to channelize his energies all over again before starting his next.”
When contacted, the soft spoken director said in a polite tone, “Yes, my next film would have to wait till 2016. I don’t want to just step into a film right away just because it makes good business sense. I need to get the right creativity in place first.”
