Akshay Kumar is originally known as Rajiv Hari Om Bhati who was born on 9th September 1967. He was born and brought up in Amritsar and Delhi in a military officer. He lived and grew up in Chandni Chowk Delhi and later moved to Bombay wherein he lived in Koliwada. He did his schooling from Don Bosco School and later went on to do his college from Guru Nanak Khalsa College and then got dropped out to fly to Bangkok to learn martial arts. He got his black belt in Taekwondo and then mastered Muay Thai to work as a chef and waiter. Soon he returned to Mumbai and started teaching the student martial arts and soon was recommended by his student into modeling which gave him an assignment. He soon left the martial art behind to do modeling apart from working as assistant photographer Jayesh Sheth for around 18 months without any payment and when he went to collect the payment he landed up getting a lead role in Pramodh Chakrvarthy film Deedar.
Akshay Kumar then got another film Saugandh in 1991 and then got another movie Dancer, however, his real breakthrough came with the Abbas Mustan film called Khiladi. He then did another detective movie Mr. Bond based on James Bond and then got a slew of successful movies like Ashant, Sainik, Dil Ki Baazi, Kayda Kanoon and Waqt Hamara Hai to name a few. He then got films like Yeh Dillagi, Elaan, Suhaag, Mohra and Mai Khiladi Tu Anari, which was a commercial hit. However, the phase of 195 to 1999 was a slowdown in his career as his movies with action like Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi failed and thus he kept getting smaller roles like Dil To Pagal Hai, yet he got the best supporting actor award for the latter.
After 2000, he entered into comedy formats with film like Hera Pheri, which was a big hit at the box office. Some of his film in this stage includes Dhadkan, Khiladi 420, Ek Rishtaa, Ajnabee and others. All these films till 2010 were above average but when he entered into comedy with action, it came out tobe a turnaround thing for his career. The year 2012 and after proved him as a superstar with a couple of super hits in his career that started with Housefull 2. He did some exceptions moves like Special 26, Phir Hera Pheri, OMG: Oh My God and Boss though some of these films didn’t turn a big hit yet it helped him to carve his niche in the domain of acting and incredible performances.
Some of his recent movies that went par include Rustom, Airlift, Baby, Holiday, Gabbar Is Back, Singh is Bling, Brothers, Entertainment and Housefull 3 were among the decent grosser. He believes in doing the film in 40 days as he is a man with a principle of giving quality time to family and leading a healthy life keeping him away from late night parties. He finishes his work early and loves to start early that makes him the fittest and healthiest actor in B Town. Talking about his personal life, he is married to Twinkle Khanna and has two kids – Aarav and Nitara. He remains active with a number of physical sports like swimming, basketball, kickboxing and Karate. Akshay Kumar has a number of awards and titles including getting the award Seven Deadly Arts With Akshay Kumar, Sexiest Man Alive by People India Magazine. He has been awarded by the University of Windsor by conferring as an Honorary Doctorate of Law on Kumar in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema. The very next year he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. In 2011 The Asian Awards honored Kumar for his outstanding achievement in Cinema.
Talking about his endorsements, it all started from 1997, when he got the endorsement for Pepsi. Akshay Kumar previously endorsed for Thums Up for several years and also endorsed for Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India, footwear brand Relaxo, Micromax Mobile, Dollar Club, Red Label, Manappuram Gold Loan and LG Electronics. He was also the part of the inaugural function of the World Kabaddi League, he also owns a team in the Kabbadi League. He helped his wife with editing the drafts of her debut book Mrs Funnybones. Apart from being involved in charity activities like donating a sum of 90 lacs to drought hit farmers in Maharashtra in 2015. He has also donated INR 50 lacs to aid drought affected people through the Maharashtra government’s Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan.
