'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' is the top weekend earner in 2015 - Filmymantra
News & Gossip

‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is the top weekend earner in 2015

Without a doubt ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, for all the right reasons, has swept the weekend box-office collections of 2015 till date claiming the top position. Film’s lead Kangana Ranaut has already been called as the actress who does not need a Khan to give a blockbuster. With the current scenario in Bollywood where no movies with leading heroes were clicking at the box office in the first quarter, Kangana has just proved everyone wrong. Just when you thought ‘Queen’ was her best performance, she surprises us with a double role like never before in this sequel directed by Anand Rai.

Till the release of this film, it was Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gabbar is Back’ who had claimed the top position for highest first weekend collection of 2015. But now it has slipped to number 2 with Tanu Weds Manu Returns drawing it house full audiences all over the country.

All India NBOC of Tanu Weds Manu Returns

Day 1: 8,85,00,000 Day 2: 13,20,00,000 Day 3: 16,10,00,000

Not only Akshay but it has also managed to beat Deepika Padukone. Aanand L. Rai’s films’ first day collection has come out as a clear winner with whopping 8.85 cr on Day 1 leaving behind ‘Piku’ that boast of big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. Piku’s Day 1 collection was 5.16 cr. Kangana Ranaut is clearly emerging a winner at the box office with this film. She has been appreciated for her double role which has only cemented the trust with the audience to go and watch her films.

The story based on the after-marriage life of Tanu and Manu along with their troubles to sustain in it, has not only garnered 38.1cr in it’s first weekend but has also created quite a buzz unlike the film’s first instalment. Even the big IPL finals did not hamper the business. As Farhan Akhtar pointed out in his recent tweet, it is cleary the victory of content in films.

Wonderful to see Piku & Tanu weds Manu give a shot in the arm to content backed storytelling. Focus on art, business will follow.
