Trust actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui to pull off some of the most unconventional roles, film after film, with an elan seldom seen in Bollywood. He is at it again, this time playing a school teacher in his upcoming film Haraamkhor. The film’s director Shlok Sharma reveals more about the film, “It is primarily a love story. Even though it is based in small town, the emotions and situations are universal. Some of it will ring familiar to all of us since we’ve seen, read and heard about.”
Talking of Siddiqui’s surprise role, Sharma says: “It is anything but a run-of-the-mill portrayal. We had to be extremely careful while giving shape to this character because it is about the very delicate relationship between a guru and his shishya (played by Shweta Tripathi). It couldn’t be shady or cheesy. You have to actually watch the film to see how Nawazuddin takes this simple-on-paper character to new levels and adds his personal nuances. All through our shooting schedule, he continued adding layers to his character, bringing newspaper stories and his own experiences and exposure to the table. We all know that he is a powerhouse of talent. And he has taken the character of Shyam beyond imagination.”
Haraamkhor, however, could run into controversy with its title, given the new Censor Board guidelines. When asked about it, Sharma brushed aside the concerns. “We are in a country propagating free speech. I have complete faith in our system.”Haraamkhor is produced by Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga. The release date of the film is not finalised yet.
