Kumud Mishra’s Praise Left Me Spellbound: Shriyam Bhagnani on Her Viral Aap Jaisa Koi Scene

Feedback

She may have had a brief appearance in Aap Jaisa Koi, but Shriyam Bhagnani left a lasting impression, so much so that one of her lines went viral across social media. While many are still discovering her through that powerful moment, Shriyam is no stranger to compelling performances. With City of Dreams behind her and the much-awaited Sumo Didi ahead, where she plays the lead as a sumo wrestler, this rising actor is boldly carving her own path in the industry. In this conversation, Shriyam opens up about the unexpected praise, the joy of leading a socially resonant film, and the kind of role she dreams of taking on next.

*1.* Aap Jaisa Koi’ has received great feedback, and even though your role was brief, one of your dialogues went viral online. How does that feel?

It feels surreal ofcourse. I am extremely grateful to Vivek Soni sir (director) and Taran Bajaj sir (casting director) to have trusted me with this part. On paper, it was a small role, but the way the scene has been appreciated has led me to believe screen time doesn’t matter. The beauty of the writing and execution of it, really were the catalysts here.

*2.* What’s the best feedback you’ve received so far? Has anyone from the industry reached out to you?

The best feedback has to be from the film critic “Tried and refused productions” on YouTube. He said some really kind words about me in the films’ review.

From the industry, Kumud Mishra sir, who’s Ayesha mam’s husband reached out to me and sent me a voice note appreciating my work. I was spellbound for hours after thinking to myself, if HE liked my work, I must have done something right.

*3.* There’s been a lot of buzz around Sumo Didi, with several celebrities posting in support. You play the lead role of a sumo wrestler—can you tell us more about the film? When do we get to see you on screen?

How lucky am I for that to have happened to my first film as a lead? Yes, more than 130 celebrities with a cumulative followers of 300+million (yes, I counted) have shared Sumo Didi’s Poster. Insiders, outsiders, influencers, chefs, athletes – there’s been no bar, even including founders on LinkedIn. The fact that the topic of the film is resonating with so many industries, is in itself, a blessing.

Jio Studios put trust in me as a newcomer and in this film, I have no doubts the release will be aligned with the best possible timing for the film. They’ve been nothing but a dream studio for an actor who really wishes to make it in the industry.

*4.* The poster looks quite impactful. What was the journey like shooting for Sumo Didi?

Thank you! It was a beautiful journey – one that changed my life forever. I hope the movie and our combined efforts speak for itself when the world gets to watch it.

_*5.*_ After City of Dreams, Aap Jaisa Koi, and now Sumo Didi, is there a particular genre you’re keen to explore next?

I am just starting out, right? Technically it’s all the genres including the 3 you’ve mentioned, but I do wish and pray to play a dancer on screen 💃🏻
