Ekta Kapoor is one of the finest filmmakers and producers in Indian entertainment. She gave audiences the iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which changed the course of Indian television forever. The show, which aired for over eight years, had a gripping storyline, and its characters became household names. Now, as the show marks 25 years, Ekta Kapoor is set to recreate the nostalgia of the early days of Indian cable television. As producer, she is introducing a new season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, airing this month, featuring the same beloved leads, actors Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay, bringing the legacy forward with a fresh perspective.

Talking about bringing in the new season of the show, Ekta Kapoor shared how it felt like the right time, especially as this year marks the 25th anniversary of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Reflecting on the moment, she said, “We wanted to do a short bout of episodes so that we can actually bring back the memories and most importantly to give back to the medium that gave us so much–television.”

One of the most loved characters from the show was Smriti Irani’s Tulsi, who went on to become one of the most iconic characters of Indian television; her name still echoes even today. However, Ekta highlighted how the new season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and especially the new version of Tulsi, can shed light on topics that need to be talked about today, offering a new perspective and a fresh mindset.

“We wanted to use this powerful force to reckon with character that penetrated through large parts of India and help India see her in an updated, newer version and talk about important issues. We are using storytelling to do what we want to do, that is, create impact, awareness, and change mindset,” Ekta added.

In the realm of entertainment, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi remains one of Indian television’s greatest legacies. Launched in the year 2000, the show didn’t just find its place in prime time; it found a permanent place in the hearts of millions of Indian households.
