Sonam Kapoor has been in Bollywood for over a decade, sharing the screen with some of the industry’s biggest stars, including Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan. However, one collaboration that has never happened is with Shah Rukh Khan. The actress once opened up about this, revealing her thoughts on why she was never paired with King Khan.

Sonam Kapoor’s Take On Why She Never Worked With SRK

Sonam, known for her impeccable fashion sense and critically acclaimed performances in films like Neerja, made her Bollywood debut alongside Ranbir Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya (2007). Interestingly, her debut clashed with Deepika Padukone’s launch in Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om. While Deepika went on to star in multiple films opposite SRK, Sonam never got the chance.

According to The News, Sonam Kapoor once candidly admitted that she tried to reach out to SRK for opportunities but nothing ever materialized. She said:

“I don’t think Shah Rukh wants to work with me. There have been so many opportunities where I could have worked with him, but nothing materialized. I wanted to work with him and reached out to him as well, but I never got the opportunity. I guess it will happen whenever he feels like working with me.”

Do Male Actors Decide Their Co-Stars?

Sonam also shed light on the power dynamics in Bollywood, claiming that it’s the male actors who often decide who will be cast opposite them.

“What happens in the film industry is that an actor decides whether an actress should do a film with him or not. So when he (SRK) wants to work with me, it will happen, but I don’t think he’s wanted to work with me till now.”

Will Sonam & SRK Ever Work Together?

Despite years passing since this statement, Sonam Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan have yet to share screen space. Their fans, however, still hope for a future collaboration that could bring an unexpected yet exciting on-screen pairing.
