Shoojit Sircar Opens Up About Irrfan Khan’s Mental Struggles During Cancer Battle

Irrfan’s Mental Struggle Against Cancer

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, who shared a close friendship with the late Irrfan Khan, recently revealed that the actor struggled to fight cancer mentally. In an interview with ETimes, Shoojit reflected on Irrfan’s battle, comparing it to a friend who defied medical odds and survived cancer. “I spoke to Irrfan often during his diagnosis, but he couldn’t battle it mentally,” Shoojit shared. He added that the experience inspired his latest film, I Want To Talk, which addresses mental health during life-threatening illnesses.

Taking Responsibility for Babil Khan

Shoojit also opened up about his bond with Irrfan’s son, Babil Khan. He admitted feeling a deep sense of responsibility toward guiding Babil through life and career challenges. “I feel responsible for supporting him, boosting his confidence, and guiding him,” he said, adding that he plans to meet Babil soon for an in-depth conversation.

Struggling with Loss and Guilt

The filmmaker shared that Irrfan’s death has left an irreplaceable void in his life, both personally and professionally. “I still feel the guilt and overwhelming loss,” Shoojit confessed, admitting he struggles to find closure. He described Irrfan as unique and irreplaceable, making his passing even harder to process.

The Legacy Continues with I Want To Talk
