**Anupam Kher Recalls Humorous Incident Amid Financial Struggles: ‘Police Couldn’t Stop Laughing’**

Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently shared a candid account of the financial turmoil he faced during the early 2000s, a period that brought him to the brink of bankruptcy. Despite his success in Bollywood, Kher encountered significant financial struggles while attempting to expand into the television business. During an appearance on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Kher humorously recounted an unfortunate yet amusing event from this difficult time—when his car was stolen outside a temple, leading to an unexpected reaction from the police.

Kher explained that he had gone to the Mahalakshmi temple to pray and had left his car running outside. As he prayed, a thief drove off with the vehicle. When he rushed to the police station to report the theft, the officers couldn’t stop laughing. According to Kher, the situation felt like a scene straight out of a movie, and the officers found the entire incident absurdly humorous, despite the seriousness of the situation.

In addition to this light-hearted moment, Kher spoke about his near-bankruptcy. He revealed that by 2003-2004, despite having a well-established career with popular films like *Ram Lakhan*, *Saaransh*, and *Dil*, his attempt to become a TV mogul nearly cost him everything. His office and home were on the verge of being sold, and his financial stability was severely threatened.

Though Kher’s rise to fame was already established, the pressures of his business ventures made this period particularly challenging. Despite the setbacks, Kher has since regained his footing in the industry, both as an actor and director. He made his directorial debut with the 2002 film *Om Jai Jagadish* and is now set to release his second directorial project, *Tanvi: The Great*.

Additionally, Kher will soon be seen in the YRF production *Vijay 69*, which is set to release on Netflix on November 8, 2024.
