Manmarziyaan in troubled waters? Sikhs demand an FIR against Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and filmmakers
Manmarziyaan is the new age Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, an Anurag Kashyap directorial that demonstrates a free and lively Rumi played by Taapsee Pannu finding escapes from family and responsibility all alone but strikingly likewise agrees upon the general mindset of the present generation. The movie, which already proved to be a dud at the box office is now surrounded by a new trouble. The Sikhs have demanded an FIR to be filled against Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and the filmmakers.

The movie has clearly failed at the box box office by collecting just Rs. 16 crore and to add to the trouble, the Sikhs are planning to file an FIR against the actors and the makers of Manmarziyaan. They are also demanding the removal of the film from the theatres as it has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikhs.

Ambala’s Sikh Sangat met on Monday at Gurdwara Manji Sahib to take a decision against the screening of the film. The community is highly enraged because of a couple of scenes in Manmarziyaan where Taapsee Pannu and Abhishek Bachchan, who play Sikhs, are seen smoking cigarettes and in a scene, Abhishek is seen removing his turban in an objectionable way.

The representatives said, “The filmmakers have not only hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikhs, but they have also made an attempt to distort the Sikh principles. This is not the first time when a film is attacking the Sikh identity, earlier as well there have been films which have targeted the Sikhs. We will strongly oppose the screening of this film in our area, we urge the Sikhs worldwide to unite and stand against this film.”
Under the leadership of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee member Harpal Singh Pali and Ambala City Youth Akali Dal President Charan Singh Takkar, the issue was taken to the city magistrate and Ambala Police Station.
