Ajay Devgn’s Raid Is Based On Real Life Events In The 80’s

Bollywood is nowadays trying its hands in making movies based on real life and incidents. From ‘Special 26’ to ‘Rustom’ to ‘Airlift’, there are many such movies where actors have done their best and also audiences have liked them as well. The public is not always aware of the past and through these genuine stories, they are getting a glimpse of the past and can also think on the incidents.

One such upcoming movie which is based on real-life events is Ajay Devgn’s ‘Raid’. The trailer released a month ago and it has given us a glimpse of the incident of a raid that happened in Lucknow, UP in the 80’s.

Many of us don’t have any idea of what happened at that time. So, today let us throw some light on the incident of longest Income Tax Raid ever that took place in the 80’s.

It was in the year 1981, 16 July, a group of Income Tax officials raided the house of the then Congress MLA and businessman Sardar Inder Singh in Kanpur. The raid was under the then Income Tax Commissioner of Lucknow, Sharda Prasad Pandey. There were total 90 officers in this raid. Around 200 police officers were appointed for the safety of the officers and 45 officers were assigned just to count the notes.

This is considered as the longest raid that continued for more than 18 hours and at the end, the officers managed to recover Rs 1.6 crore in cash and gold was recovered separately.

In reality, the raid was quite peaceful but in the trailer of the movie, lots of violence is shown. The movie is not truly based on the real-life events but it is inspired by the incident. Also, there is one incident that says that the movie is inspired by the incident that happened on 14th September 1989. 88 Income Tax officers raided the factories and homes of two industrialists Harish Chhabra and Chitranjan Swarup. In the end, Rs 2 crore were recovered. Also, Harish Chhabra attacked the officers and they were badly beaten and many were stripped naked.
