‘Aiyaary’ box office collections further witness a steep decline on Day 6
Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Aiyaary’ which released this Friday on February 16th, 2018 further saw a huge decline in its box office collections after its opening weekend. The film which opened to mostly negative reviews from critics has failed to please the audiences too. The film witnessed a rapid decline of footfalls in theatres post its opening weekend with the film registering a collection of Rs.1.4 crore on Monday which is less by Rs.2.85 crore from its collections on Sunday. Hence taking the total collection to 14.29 crore, while overseas collection as of now is $ 1.12 million (7.26 cr)
The film also failed to have decent first day collections with the film taking an opening of Rs.3.35 crore at the box office as opposed to an expected Rs.6-7 crore on its first day considering it is a Neeraj Pandey film. The film has turned out to be a disappointment for the distributors and exhibitors who hoped for the film to do well in weekdays. As per trade estimates, the Day 5 collections of ‘Aiyaary’ on Tuesday stand at a disastrous Rs.1.2 crore.
‘Aiyaary’ had a similar opening as Sidharth Malhotra’s previous two films ‘A Gentleman’ and ‘Ittefaq’ which were flops and had poor openings. The film has grossed a total box-office collection of Rs.14.2 crore in five days since its release.
The film is made on a total estimated budget of Rs. 60 crores inclusive of prints and advertising cost with the cost of production being Rs. 45 crores. The film has released across 2150 screens worldwide with 1754 screens in India screening 6291 shows per day while overseas, the film has released across 396 screens in 39 countries.
‘Aiyaary’ focuses on an Indian Army officer who is compelled to chase down his protégé when the latter turns rogue and threatens to disrupt the country’s government and army. The film features a multi-star cast of Manoj Bajpayee, Sidharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet Singh, Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra, Anupan Kher, Pooja Chopra, Adil Hussain in lead and supporting roles and has been written and directed by Neeraj Pandey.
The producers have recovered Rs.30 crore of its production cost from satellite rights, digital rights, music rights and overseas screening of the film. Going by its progress, hopes of the Manoj Bajpayee starrer crossing Rs.70 crore in order to be called a hit seem bleak.
With Hollywood’s latest offering ‘Black Panther’ which is a big-budget Marvel superhero film opening extremely well across metros, and previous week’s releases ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Pad Man’ doing favourable business, ‘Aiyaary’ awaits its fate at the box-office.
