National Award Winning Director Kundan Shah Died Following Heart Attack
Multiple award-winning director Kundan Shah died at the age of 69 following a heart attack. The filmmaker passed away at his residence on Saturday morning. His daughter confirmed the news.
Kundan Shah was an acclaimed director, who is best known for his films like ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’ and ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’. He has also directed multiple TV series including ‘Nukkad’ and ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’. His last film was ‘P Se PM Tak’, which was released in 2014.
Shah’s daughter confirmed the news. No further details about his death are currently available.
Kundan Shah went to the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, where he studied direction. He got attracted towards comedy genre at that period. He made his directorial debut with Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, which went on to become one of the best satirical comedy films of all time in Indian cinema. After his film debut, he started working in television. He directed popular TV show Nukkad, which was a comedy series telling the story of street youngsters.
After doing multiple TV shows, he took a long break of seven years. He made his comeback with Kya Kehna, which was released in 2000 due to multiple delays. Kya Kehna was the debut film of actress Preity Zinta. The movie also featured Saif Ali Khan and Chandrachur Singh. The movie became a surprise hit of the year.
Shah won the National Award for Best First Film of a director for his film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. He also won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie for his film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.
