Sarbjit-Wife

Story:

The films deal with the real life story of Sarbjit Singh, who mistakenly crossed the Indian Borders and reached Pakistan. He was implicated in a false case of terrorism and spying in the country. He was in the Pakistan jail for over two decades and back in India her sister Dalbir Kaur struggles for 23 years for his freedom. The film revolves around the struggle of Dalbir Kaur and helpless Sarbjit.

Plot:

Sarbjit Singh (Randeep Hooda) lives in a remotest area of Punjab with his wife Sukh (Richa Chadha), sister Dalbir Kaur (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and father. He is by profession a farmer who has two daughters to care of. One night in the year 1990, he drunkenly wanders over from his village in Punjab and crossed the borders. He instantly nailed by Pakistan for crossing borders which leads to his sister for a struggle of 23 years. He was tortured in the Pakistani jail and implicated him for spying in the country. He was even pointed to be involved in Lahore city bomb blasts in Pakistan. The film tells the dreaded story of Sarbjit and his sister struggle to free him

Direction, Music, and Screenplay:

Sarbjit is a decent piece of Cinema and even critics lauded the films at the Cannes Premiere. But, back in India, I feel the film is still considered an overdose of melodrama despite fine performances by the actors. The film could be more apt if it sketches the reality with less melodrama. Director Omung Kumar should be commended for giving a call for such an intense subject. Overall the music of the film is good and really connects with the story and the song ‘Dard’ sung by Jeet Gannguli  is emotionally heart-warming. Kiran Deohans screenplay did justice to the film with the gritty and shocking visuals.

 Sarbjit-Movie

The last word:

Overall, the film is a brave attempt from the makers to showcase the real life true story of Sarbjit. It’s a decent movie to watch out in the Cinema Halls with family and friends. I will recommend it to go for it, you will like it if you are a true cinema aficionado.
