‘Mogul’ First Look Poster; Akshay Kumar To Play Gulshan Kumar!

Akshay Kumar looks like he’s in a competition of how many films he could finish working on in the shortest span of time! He has been rather choosy in his choice of scripts and why not! His last four films have breezed into the 100 crore club and if his filmography is any way to assess, his good run at the box office is not going to fizzle out any time soon. Akshay who started shooting for ‘PadMan’, has already revealed what he would be working on next. He took to social media platforms to unveil the first look poster of ‘Mogul’ which is going to be a biopic on the music rags-to-riches story of music mogul Gulshan Kumar, the man behind the T-series empire!

T-Series tweeted the first poster of the film and also confirmed that Akshay has been helmed to play Gulshan Kumar’s part in the film. Akshay also tweeted the poster and wrote,

“My association with Him began with my very first film. He was The Emperor Of Music! Now know His story… #Mogul, The Gulshan Kumar story!”

Subhash Kapoor who worked with Akshay in ‘Jolly LLB 2’ earlier this year would be directing ‘Mogul’. Akshay Kumar goes way back with T-series as Gulshan Kumar was the producer of his first film ‘Sugandh’.

Akshay is all set to play the part and is rather excited. He was quoted as saying,

“I had the good fortune of knowing Gulshanji well and had a close association with him right from my first film ‘Saugandh’. We both shared many things in common and come from a similar background. I am very excited to play him on screen.”

Gulshan Kumar also turned producer for a number of films – Lal Dupatta Malmal Ka (1989), Aashiqui (1990), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Meera Ka Mohan, and Jeena Marna Tere Sang. Gulshan Kumar was shot outside the Jeeteshwar Mahadev Mandir, a Hindu temple in the Andheri West suburb of Mumbai on 12 August 1997. He breathed his last on the spot. Nadeem of the music duo Nadeem-Shravan was accused of being the culprit. Later on 9 January 2001, Vinod Jagtap (alias “Raja”) confessed that he was the murderer. On 29 April 2002, Jagtap was sentenced to life imprisonment. Since the prosecution failed to prove that Jagtap was a contract killer, he wasn’t given the death penalty. As per his family’s wishes, Gulshan Kumar’s cremation took place in Delhi.
