58 year old Jackie Shroff plays dad to 47 year old Akshay Kumar in Brothers

Now this is one piece of trivia that truly surprised us. While it is a known fact that Jackie Shroff is playing Akshay Kumar’s father in Brothers, a little bit of digging revealed that in real life, they are separated only by 11 years. While Jackie Shroff is 58 year old, Akshay Kumar is 47 year old.

So did Jackie Shroff find it amusing?

“See, once I get into the zone of acting, I don’t feel that my kid is 47 years or nearing 50. When it came to Akshay in the film, to me he was my kid,” says Shroff Sr., “The way I looked at it, I was playing a 65 year old character while Akshay was 40. That’s the way I treated him, me and the film.”

He goes on to add, “As an actor, you need to behave your character, and not act your character. Behavior is everything. Once you start behaving as someone in his mid-60s, you would automatically see a man in his 40s as your son.”

A veteran of over three decades, Jackie Shroff was pretty much in his elements when he stepped in as father of Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra in Karan Malhotra’s Brothers.

“For that I have to credit my director Karan as well as the team of technicians; they were all absolutely superb,” says Jackie Shroff, “The way they handled me, it wasn’t difficult post that. As for my own behavior, I brought it in place with my walk, look and stance.”

Since he is also required to get into the ring for some scenes when he is playing a man in his mid-30s, he had to get the boxing part right as well.

“Yes, I watch people. I know exactly how boxers should be. I think experience of over three decades teaches you at least that,” smiles Jackie Shroff before signing off.
