‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’, a long awaited biopic which showcases the untouched dimensions of the Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life outside the cricket stadium, released on the 30th of September 2016.
This film went on to become the first of its kind since no other cricketer has had a biopic to his credit before his retirement.
If media reports are anything to go by, Mahi’s nod for the film based on his life to start rolling alone cost the filmmaker a whopping amount of 80 crore! Reportedly, Dhoni was paid 20 crore apart from a share of the film’s profits and royalties. Though, according to a report in a leading regional newspaper Dhoni charged a final amount of 60 crore!
The amount that Dhoni charged for his biopic was rather shocking and more so, because neither do the topmost leading actors get that kind of money for the efforts they out into perfecting the roles they play, nor do most films have that high a budget. While the ‘Neerja’ director Neeraj Pandey directed the movie, it was Sushant Singh Rajput’s portrayal od Dhoni on the silver screen that stole the show.

The film which gathered much critical and commercial success went on to become the fifth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2016 in India with a box office gross of ₹1.16 billion (US$17 million). While the budget of the film was a 104 crore, it managed to collect 215.48 crore at the box-office.
