Raees VS Kaabil: Day 13 Box Office Collection!
2017 began with a bang, with two big Bollywood projects clashing at the box-office. Rakesh Roshan, producer of Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam-starrer, ‘Kaabil’, cried foul about being given lesser screens compared to the Shahrukh Khan and Mahira Khan-starrer ‘Raees’. however, all’s well that ends well and in this race, both films have emerged winners at the box office. ‘Kaabil’, which joined ‘Raees’ in the 100 crore club, is inching towards the 150 crore mark, while ‘Raees’ just crossed the milestone.
‘Kaabil’ is currently enjoying a fantastic run in Pakistan, where it saw a solo release. It was the first Indian film to be released in India post Pakistan’s ban on Bollywood films following the events that happened after the September 18 Uri attacks and India’s decision to not cast Pakistani actors or musicians in our films. With ‘Raees’ being deemed ‘unfit’ for viewing by the Pakistani Censor Board, ‘Kaabil’ might see a brighter light of the day in terms of its box office collections. Though ‘Raees’ has a Pakistani connection in leading lady Mahira Khan, her leading man in the film, Shah Rukh plays a character based on Gujarati bootlegger-turned-don Abdul Latif. His Raees Alam is a Shia. Pakistan’s Sunni-majority is said to have swayed the favour against Raees, a film that has a Shia hero. The censor board in Pakistan is also said to have ruled that Raees shows Muslims in a negative light. But when it comes to overseas collections, SRK is the undisputed king and ‘Raees’ is no different’. The film is very close to the 300 crore mark worldwide. SRK had taken to twitter to announce when the film crossed Rs 275 crore worldwide, ending his tweet with the hashtag #RAEES275CRWORLDWIDE.
Boys and girls new song from Raees coming up in a bit. Didn’t make it to the film but will make it to ur heart I hope. #RAEES275CRWORLDWIDE
