10 Indians Who Got Special Treatment In Prisons After Being Convicted Of Serious Crimes.
1.Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insaan
After being found guilty of Rape by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on 25th August, 2017, this Godman was kept in an air-conditioned room in a prison near Rohtak town. If that wasn’t enough, no level of disgraceful act could stop this baba from receiving special treatment from Haryana’s Manohar Lala Khattar govt who arrange a helicpter and amenities meant only for police officials.
2. Sasikala Natarajan
Sasikala was provided with her personal kitchen inside the jail premises. As per reports, DIG Roopa who was the Deputy Inspector alleged that Sasikala had paid Rs 2 crore in bribe to avail perks inside the prison such as five rooms, beds, a cot and also a TV.
3. Abdul Karim Telgi
The report that exposed Sasikala also mentioned that Abdul received special massaged from 3-4 other convicts who were apparently ‘alloted’ to him inside the jail. Abdul was convicted in the counterfeit stamp paper scam in 2007 and sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment.
4. Dileep
Actor Dileep was sent to 14 days of judicial custody in the abduction case of the Malayalam actress in Kerala. The actor allegedly enjoyed VIP treatment and the jail authorities apparently abided by all his orders and served every need of Dileep. It is also believed that after other jail inmates’ meal was completed, he use to be served the same meal that the jail officials were served.
5. Subrata Roy
This one’s a complete shocker. Subrata Roy who was jailed on the orders of The Supreme Court was accused of Fraud against the investors after a prolonged legal battle with the SEBI. He was sent to Tihar Jail where he bribed the jail officials of Rs 1.3 crore to avail AC room, mobile phone, Wi-Fi and video conferencing amenities.
6. Lalu Prasad Yadav
Lalu Prasad Yadav was sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail, Jharkand in the Multi-fodder scam enjoyed an array of special perks during his stay, It includes a TV, two cooks who made his favourite meals, visitor’s meeting that lasted hours after the time limit and permission to wander in the prison premises outside of the allotted hours.
7. Amar Singh
Amar Singh was convicted in the cash-for-votes scam and was sent to Tihar Jail. He later cited a kidney problem and urinary tract infection to escape the harsh treatment within the prison. Due to this, he was given a personal ward as opposed to a barrack where the other prisoners are held. He was also given home-cooked food, mineral water and a western-style toilet. Two inmates were allotted to keep his ward clean by scrubbing the floor 4-5 times a day and insecticides were sprayed regularly to kill the mosquitoes,
8. Bibi Jagir Kaur
Bibi Jagir Kaur was a former Shiromani Akali Dal minister was accused of kidnapping and killing her own daughter. During her time in Kapurthala Central Jail, she was given a 32 inch TV and a mobile phone. However, the court later dropped all the charges on her.
9. Manu Sharma
He was convicted in the murder of Jessica Lal and was sent to Tihar Jail. However, he later made a request for parole in 2009 to visit his ailing Mother. He was later spotted partying once he was out of the jail. This irked the prison authorities who cut short his parole and sent him back to prison.
10. Vikas Yadav
Convicted of Nitish Katara’s murder alongside brother Vishal Yadav was probably give the most bails and allowances than anyone else. Within 2 years of his prison life, he was given bail at least 66 times. He also spent most of his prison time in hospitals citing health issues even when he had none. He spent the Diwali Night outside of the prison, 2 policemen helped him escape and were later suspended.
