The Kerala Story, Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s upcoming film in which he serves as producer, has already courted controversy.

The movie, directed by Sudipto Sen and starring Adah Sharma, makes the allegation that many young women in Kerala are being brainwashed into joining terrorist organisations.

Untrue information about the number of women who might have been involved in these situations was included in a movie teaser released in November and received criticism for it.

Shalini Unnikrishnan, who plays Adah in the teaser, is depicted as donning a burkha. The woman says, “Now I am Fatima Ba, an IS terrorist in an Afghan prison.”

In addition, she states that “32,000 girls” have been recruited and converted in the same way as her. A journalist has written to the chief minister requesting an investigation after a few Keralan politicians shared their opinion that the movie should be banned after it was released.

In a Mid-Day interview, Vipul expressed appreciation for the feedback on the movie. He revealed, “We’ll respond to [the accusations] as soon as possible.

Nothing we say will be unsupported by facts. People will understand the answers once we present our data and statistics.

It is up to them whether they accept them or not. Before beginning the film, director Sudipto Sen spent four years conducting extensive research.”

We’re making a movie about a significant tragedy, he continued. Discussions about whether or not I am pro-establishment will only reflect one person’s point of view if I want to tell this story as a filmmaker.

I only consider stories as a filmmaker that has the power to move me deeply and make me want to tell them.

The Disney+ Hotstar medical thriller Human was produced and directed by Vipul, who is wed to the actor Shefali Shah.

Shefali was the drama’s star, featuring Kirti Kulhari, Vishal Jethwa, Indraneil Sengupta, Seema Biswas, Ram Kapoor, and Mohan Agashe in supporting roles. Namaste England, a 2018 movie starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, was his final work as a director.

The films Aasma, Guruji: Ahead of Time, Lucknow Times, and The Last Monk are among those for which Sudipto is renowned. Additionally, he contributed to several shorts and documentaries, such as Akhnoor, In The Name Of Love, Indian Autumn, and Battle of Saraighat.
