Dostana, starring Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan released in the year 2008! The movie was first of its kind in Bollywood and did manage to raise up a lot many eyebrows as much it managed to make people laugh and become a popular choice! While some took an objection, the rest were quite ok with the depiction! Its been 10 years of Dostana and Karan Johar now has addressed the objections and said that there was a stereotypical depiction in the film and added that if he ever makes the film again, he wouldn’t do it the same way. Karan Johar was speaking at We The Women Conclave, where he said, “There was a stereotypical depiction and I cannot deny that.”
Karan Johar said, “But my motive to make that film was actually to bring about that conversation, to tell the world and people who weren’t aware that what is homosexuality. It is a phenomenon that exists, it’s a choice that people make, it’s who they are, it’s what defines them and you have to be aware of it first.”
He further shared, “There’s a very important scene in Dostana where the mother accepts her son’s choice but that nobody will say, everybody, will talk about the stereotypical… I do agree and I wouldn’t do it again.”
He also added that while the conversation around homosexuality is not a taboo anymore, it wasn’t the case 10 years back. “But at that point in time, I had to bring it with humour for that topic to actually resonate at all. I am talking about 2008, it was 10 years ago and eventually, that topic had to become a conversation even at homes where they were unaware.”
