Bollywood requests govt to reopen Cinema Halls; Trends #UnlockCinemaSaveJobs Petition

The lockdown was imposed in the wake of Coronavirus spread nearly 6 months back in month of March, which majorly hit the entertainment industry among several other sectors. Given its infection and mortality rate, the government was forced to shut all the single-screen, multiplexes, which resulted in pay cuts and a sacking trend taking the upward route due to the financial crunch.

Now as our country is in Unlock phase 4, and many sectors have been reopened under strict safety guidelines of Covid-19, the Producers Guild Of India, filmmakers producers, and even actors all came together to support the appeal made by Multiplex Association of India to reopen the cinema halls as well. This online movement also saw many trade analysts, exhibitors, and also many South film industry stars supporting the association’s appeal.

This mass online petition supported by the film fraternity made the UnlockCinemaSaveJobs trend on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

The Multiplex Association of India’s appeal to the government to save jobs in this sector gained huge support by many including – Taran Adarsh, Karan Johar’s production banner, Dharma Production, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, actor Manoj Bajpayee.

Extending his support to this movement director Anurag Kashyap tweeted, “Dreams come to life at movies on the big screen. There are millions behind the screen who make that happen. Jobs are at stake. Can’t wait for cinemas to reopen! #UnlockCinemaSaveJobs” Whereas, Anubhav Sinha just retweeted the original post by Multiplex Association of India with a trending hashtag.

Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s production banner ‘Dharma Productions’ supporting this campaign tweeted, “The grandeur of experiencing a story on a large screen is unmatched. Not to forget, thousands of jobs are at stake. #UnlockCinemaSaveJobs”

To note, in its letter to the government, the Multiplex Association of India has worked out a number of safety measures that will be taken at the cinema halls in order to follow the protocol formed by the government of India to curtail the further spread of the pandemic.
