Things From Movies That OFFENDED People In 2017

In the recent past we have seen that there have been many things which have offended people in general across the country. In 2017, while there have been instances where some have got offended on social media, some managed to offend the Censor Board. We bring you a compilation of 14 such things which offended Indians in general from Bollywood

# Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Padmavati offended hundreds for ‘distorting facts’ while showing a fictional character of Rani Padmini in a poor light. The sets of the movie was vandalised and threats issued on the names of lead actress Deepika Padukone.

# Critically acclaimed movie, Sexy Durga, created quite an uproar for hurting religious sentiments for referring to Goddess Durga as Sexy. The film had to be screened as S Durga during MAMI, and at IFFI, it was just removed from the screening despite being nominated.

# A photo of Mahira Khan smoking with Ranbir Kapoor created quite an uproar and the actress was slut shamed by trollers saying how could an actress smoke and that too being a Muslim woman. Lots of other celebs came out in her defense stating that she was an independent woman and was allowed to whatever she wished to.

# ​Many didn’t like Sunny Leone’s Navratri-themed condom ad. It was considered offensive and unsanskari by groups of people who trolled the actress for trying to destroy Indian culture.

# Priyanka Chopra was slammed for meeting the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, wearing a dress. The two were in Germany at the same time and thus the actresses decided to pay the Indian PM a visit. However, people were of the opinion that she shouldn’t have had showed her legs while visiting the head of a nation.

# Esha Gupta was called names for doing a lingerie shoot. She was again called as one of those who tried to spoil Indian culture. She was so pissed at the trolling that she decided to switch off the comment section of her photo shoot pictures.

# Lisa Haydon offended trolls who couldn’t see a photo of a mother breastfeeding her child. She was body shamed and told that things like breastfeeding need to be done inside the closed quarters of ones home and nothing of it was to be mentioned on social media. Lisa, however, received support from the film and media fraternity as in a country like India awareness for breastfeeding needs to be spread.

# Sonu Nigam’s tweets against forced religiousness and the usage of loudspeakers at places of worship offended many. He had a simple query posed at all religions alike, however, some Muslim fundamental groups took offense the most. One leader also promised to shell out 10 Lakhs to anyone who would shave Sonu’s head. Sonu called for a press conference and shaved his head in front of all, and demanded the money. The leader, as usual, put forth some bogus reason and backed out.

# Ex Bigg Boss contestant Sofia Hayat’s swastika tattoo on the bottom of her feett hurt religious sentiments. People opined that a religious symbol should be given more respect and shouldn’t be touching any person’s feet. As usual, Sofia was badmouthed by religious leaders and their followers even on social media.

# Censor board got offended by the film, Lipstick Under My Burkha, because it was a ‘lady-oriented movie’. The film was not given a clearance and finally after a lot of efforts by the makers the film was released. It received a thunderous response from the audience who now questioned the legitimacy of the censor board’s authority to give cuts to a movie.

# Lawyers were offended by the title of Jolly LLB 2 because they thought it mocked their profession. Akshay Kumar suddenly was in the news not for the promotional activities of the film, but for hurting the sentiments of the lawyers. Finally a disclaimer had to be attached at the start of the film saying that all was just fiction and nothing else.

# CBFC was offended by Hanuman Chalisa in the film Phillauri. The reason was that the religious shlokas were supposed to ward off evil, however, in the movie it couldn’t ward off a ghost. So audiences’ trust in the religious chants might reduce and that’s why it was asked to be reduced in the film.

# Fatima Sana Shaikh, offended people for wearing a bikini during Ramadan. After all being a Muslim woman, how could a lady leave a burkha and sport a swimwear? Fatima gave it back to the trollers by posting more pics of her in swimsuit from the same shoot.

# Mira Rajput’s comments on being a stay-at-home mother and comparing a dog with a baby were considered insensitive by the audience. People took offense at Shahid’s wife and started trolling her on social media stating that she was demeaning the efforts put in by mothers across the country.
