Pre-sales bookings for the movie currently stand at $38 million, surpassing one of the year’s highest-grossing movies, Top Gun: Maverick, but trailing two other movies by a small margin: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as well as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In addition, Avatar: The Way of Water is anticipated to gross $350 million abroad, with $100 million coming from China. The reopening of 80% of China’s theatres has significantly affected the movie’s worldwide box office results.

After the Hollywood premiere on Monday night, the review embargo for the James Cameron film was lifted, which indicates that Rotten Tomatoes has averaged 81 reviews, rating it as 83% fresh. It’s interesting to note that the 2009 film had an 82% freshness rating.

Avatar: The Way of Water, which debuts 13 years after the first instalment, is one of the most eagerly awaited movies in recent memory. 

It was widely anticipated that the visual effects would be improved. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver from the first movie return for this one, and Kate Winslet also joins the cast.

It received rave reviews from critics who saw the world premiere earlier this month. It will debut in theatres on December 16 in IMAX and 3D.
